How to achieve gold, not red tones in hair?

I have medium/dark golden blonde hair. I would like to darken slightly to a light golden brown. But i'm afraid it will go red. Anyone had any experience with this?

whatever you do ask for a colour of sandy brown or golden brown...do not get amber brown or milk chocolate both of those have underlying red pigments...but...anything golden will suit....good luck

yes that happened to me once make sure you don't buy any golden titled dye always get an ash one or else it WILL go red so go with ash or a darker color than you want

If your hair naturally pulls red, you will always get a red result when going lighter. Ask the stylist to use a strong toner on your hair this will keep the brassy look out of your hair and it will be more caramel in color. I just did it with my hair 3 weeks ago.
